1 family 6 men and alone women, a woman’s aberru and killings
Film scene
The 2003 film Matrubhoomi: A Nation without Women is not only a cinematic experience, but a pungent war showing a mirror to the society. The film imagines the terrible future where female feticide and gender inequality have dropped the country to the extent that an entire village and family – in which six men live – a single woman is dependent on a woman, and that too not as a human being, but like an object. This film is one of those selected films in Bollywood history, which will be shocked by you. At the same time, you will also feel that what you know once cannot be removed from the mind again. This film makes you a little more sensitive towards women.
Start of story
The film begins with a rural Indian environment, where the number of women is almost over. The reason for this – for years female feticide and social evils. This village is full of men, but a strict shortage of women. A father lives with his five sons, and everyone’s eyes are on the same thing – a woman. When this family buys the only woman named Lakshmi (whose character is played by Tulip Joshi), she is forced to live a life of slavery, not marriage. He has to become the ‘wife’ of not one, but the ‘wife’ of all brothers. His desires, feelings and freedom have no value. She remains as a body, which men have the right – whether it is husband, father -in -law or other men of the village.
Abru, atrocities and endless violence
Lakshmi’s life becomes a daily torture. His Abaru, his identity-everything slowly goes away. Sexual abuse, mental torture and social injustice shown in the film are shocking heart. What is the right to live for a woman, it shows matrubhoomi well. But this is not just the story of Lakshmi, this is the story of the whole society that did not allow daughters to be born for years, and when women did not stay, then they went mad due to lack of women.

Urban face of society
The film is a satire on the society that only wants the power of men, but when women are not there, then the same power eats itself. Brothers fight among themselves, kill, rape – and all of them about the owner of a woman. The motherland shows that if gender inequality is not controlled in time, then how frightening our future can be. Matrubhoomi is a warning, a question, and a kind slap on the thinking that considers daughters a burden. This film shocks, scares and forces to think. The film was directed by Manish Jha and actors like Tulip Joshi, Sudhir Pandey played an important role. Even today this film is well liked.
