10 people killed in attack by paramilitary forces in Sudan

Khartoum, October 22 (IANS). 10 people have died in an attack by paramilitary forces in Sudan. More than 10 people have been killed in attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on towns and villages in central Sudan, a local non-governmental group said.

Yesterday (Sunday) and today (Monday) large numbers of Janjaweed militias attacked the eastern region of Gezira state and carried out large-scale attacks on the cities of Tamboul and Rufa, as well as several villages, the Non-Governmental Resistance Committee said in a statement on Monday. But they committed massacres.

“On Sunday and Monday, large numbers of militias attacked the eastern region of Gezira state and destroyed the cities of Tamboul and Rufa, as well as several villages,” a non-governmental resistance committee in Wad Madani, the capital of Gezira state, said in a statement on Monday. “The militia killed more than 10 people and injured many more in this massacre,” the committee said.

Sudanese armed forces have taken control of the city of Tamboul in central Sudan after RSF commander Abu Akla Keykel surrendered his forces to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), witnesses said, reports Xinhua news agency.

However, resistance committees in the city of Rufa said in a statement on Monday that RSF units had counter-attacked the city on Sunday evening. The committee described the RSF attacks on Tamboul and other eastern Gezira villages as a reprisal campaign.

At the same time, paramilitary forces have not yet made any comment regarding this incident.

The RSF gained control of Gezira in December 2023 after Sudanese armed forces withdrew from Wad Madani.

Let it be known that Sudan has been devastated by the ongoing war between the SAF and the RSF since mid-April 2023. According to a report released on October 14, more than 24,850 people have died so far due to this conflict in Sudan.
