New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill 2025 in Lok Sabha today .. Government of Union Territories Amendment Bill 2025 and Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill 2025. There is a provision in these bills that if any minister of the Union Council of Ministers, Chief Minister or a minister of the states are arrested in serious crimes in which at least five years in jail and they are kept in custody for 30 consecutive days, they will be removed from the post on the 31st day. The special thing is that this rule will also apply to other big Union ministers like Prime Minister, Home Minister. There is no provision for the arrest of a Chief Minister or a minister in the rules so far or his resignation when he goes to jail. However, this bill will not be passed today. It will be sent to the Select Committee of Parliament.

There are at least two such examples in politics from which the importance of this bill can be understood. Arvind Kejriwal stayed in Tihar Jail for 156 days in the liquor scam but did not resign from the post of Chief Minister of Delhi. Similarly, Tamil Nadu minister Senthil Balaji remained a minister despite being in jail for 8 months. Senthil finally had to resign after a strict comment from the Supreme Court.
