2006 Mumbai Train Serial Blast Case- All 12 accused acquitted

The High Court acquitted all the 12 accused on Monday in the 2006 serial train blast case in Mumbai. The court said that the prosecution ie government lawyers have failed to prove the case against the accused.

The High Court said that it is difficult to assume that the accused have committed the crime, so they are acquitted. If they are not wanted in any other case, they should be released from jail immediately.

On 11 July 2006, there were sequence of explosions in seven coaches of Mumbai’s Western Saberbon trains. In this, 189 passengers were killed and 824 people were injured. All the blasts took place in first class coaches. The decision has come 19 years after the incident.

Blast from pressure cooker in 7 local class coaches

On 11 July 2006 in Mumbai, there were seven blasts one after the other between 6.40 pm to 6.35 pm. All these blasts were conducted in the first class compartment of local trains on Western Railway of Mumbai.

These blasts took place near Khar, Bandra, Jogeshwari, Mahim, Borivali, Matunga and Meera-Bhayandar railway stations. The bombs planted in trains were made from RDX, ammonium nitrate, fuel oil and nails, which were placed in a seven pressure cooker and flew through a timer.

Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Azam Timi Timi responsible for blasts

The police had told in the charge sheet that in March 2006, Azam Cheema of Lashkar-e-Taiba had conspired to conspiracy with the heads of SIMI and Lashkar’s two groups in his house in Bahawalpur. Police had said that in May 2006, 50 youths were sent to the training camp in Bahawalpur. They were trained to make bombs and guns.
