Central Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will transfer crop insurance claim worth Rs 3200 crore to 30 lakh farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) on Monday. PMFBY claim amount will be transferred during an event held in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. Apart from Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Chaudhary and State Agriculture Minister Kirori Lal Meena will attend the event.

The maximum of Rs 1156 crore will be sent to the farmers of Madhya Pradesh

According to an official statement, Rs 1156 crore will be sent to the farmers of Madhya Pradesh in total claim amount, Rs 1121 crore to the farmers of Rajasthan, Rs 150 crore to the farmers of Chhattisgarh and Rs 773 crore to the farmers of other states. The Agriculture Minister said that the Central Government has implemented a new, easy and convenient claim settlement system in the interest of farmers, under which the claims can be made proportional to the claims on the basis of central subsidy only, without waiting for the premium contribution of the state.

A fine of 12 percent will be imposed on delay

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said in a statement, “From the Kharif 2025 session, if a state government delays its subsidy contribution, it will be fined 12 percent and similarly, if insurance companies delay the payment then they will also be fined 12 percent.”

Andhra farmers suffered losses

Shivraj Singh Chauhan, while answering a question asked in the Lok Sabha last month, had said that the Modi government converted the previous National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) into PMFBY, in which the claims of damage to the farmers were ordered to settle within 21 days. The Agriculture Minister said, “Some states had announced that they would bear the expenses of Kisan Insurance premium themselves. However, in Andhra Pradesh, the then Jagan government failed to contribute to its state’s share in the premium for 3 consecutive years. Due to which the farmers of Andhra Pradesh suffered heavy losses as they did not get the benefit of their proper crop insurance. “

PMFBY was started in the year 2016

Since the start of the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) in 2016, claims worth Rs 1.83 lakh crore have been settled under it, while the farmers have paid a premium of only Rs 35,864 crore.
