4 GRP constables involved in ganja smuggling dismissed
Bilaspur. Four constables of the Anti Crime Unit of Government Railway Police (GRP) have been dismissed in connection with the case of smuggling of ganja in trains in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. DGP’s ATS team had caught all four after recce in 250 trains. Action has been taken against jailed constables Mannu Prajapati, Saurabh Nagvanshi, Santosh Rathore and Laxman Gane on charges of misuse of position. They started doing illegal business by meeting ganja smugglers.
In the investigation, records of transactions worth about Rs 15 crore have been found in 45 bank accounts including those of relatives of the accused policemen. There is a possibility of involvement of senior officers of GRP in this. However, his name has not been revealed in the investigation.
Actually, all four constables of GRP were in the anti-crime unit of SP, who were given the responsibility of taking action against those transporting illegal weapons including ganja, intoxicating tablets, liquor smuggling in trains. All four officers had free rein to act beyond their jurisdiction. The policemen included in the team used to investigate from Raigarh to Raipur and Rajnandgaon. Constables also had the freedom to report directly to senior officers instead of TI. Taking advantage of this, all of them themselves were doing business in collaboration with ganja smugglers.
Caught after recce of 250 trains
Following the complaint in the case, the DGP’s ATS team caught all four after conducting recce in 250 trains. On October 23, two cases of 10 kg ganja each were registered in Bilaspur GRP. When ATS interrogated the two arrested accused, the names of all four constables came out. On the orders of the Police Headquarters, the team of Bilaspur Cyber Cell had caught him from Sirgitti late night on 27th October. Raipur Railway DSP conducted a departmental inquiry into the matter, in which it was said that the seized ganja was sold through Yogesh Sondhiya and Shyamdhar.
