47 killed, 22 injured in Israeli air strikes in Lebanon
Beirut, 22 November (IANS). At least 47 people have been killed in Israeli air strikes on Lebanon’s eastern province of Baalbek-Hermel. Apart from this, there is also news of 22 other people being injured.
According to Xinhua news agency, provincial governor Bashir Khodar said that the casualties included people from various cities and villages in the province. Rescue teams are still searching for missing people under the debris of destroyed houses.
Israeli forces carried out 48 airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon on Thursday, while about 100 shells were fired at 18 border towns and villages in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah claimed in a statement that its fighters had attacked central Israel with missiles.
“For the first time, the volley of qualitative missiles targeted the Hatzor airbase, which is located in central Israel near Kibbutz Hatzor Ashdod, 150 kilometers from the Lebanese border,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah also targeted Israeli military targets at various sites in southern Lebanon and northern Israel with missiles, according to the statement.
Since September, the Israeli military has increased airstrikes on Lebanon as the conflict with Hezbollah escalated. In early October, Israel began a ground operation along its northern border in Lebanon.
