-More than 1500 athletes from 28 state units will participate in 186 events at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex.

New Delhi, 13 November (HS). Underwater Sports Federation of India (USFI) in collaboration with Physical Education Foundation of India will host the 4th National Finswimming Championship from 15 to 17 November 2024 at Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex, New Delhi.

Giving information about the championship in a pre-event press conference at the International Youth Hostel, Dr. Tapan Panigrahi, Secretary, Underwater Sports Federation of India (USFI) told the media that this time the fourth National Finswimming Championship will be held from Pan India in New Delhi 2024. Around 28 state units and more than 400 districts have registered for the event and more than 1500 participants will participate. 186 events and 558 medals will be competed for across all age categories in both men’s and women’s categories. Dr. Tapan Panigrahi is a Dronacharya Awardee-Lifetime International Swim Coach. Dr. Piyush Jain, Secretary of Physical Education Foundation of India was also present in the press conference.

Elaborating about Finswimming, Dr. Panigrahi said, Finswimming is a new version of competitive swimming. It is very popular in the world; In India it is being popularized by USFI. It is an excellent platform for the youth to excel in the competitive field. At the same time their abilities are of great help to existing competitive swimming, it is an additional opportunity that can be used in favor of a strategic scientific training plan.”

Dr Panigrahi said, there is a positive movement going on among international bodies to add this sport as an Olympic event. So our pre-preparation for finswimming will already be a great opportunity to introduce boxing talents to the Olympics. USFI is focusing on its sports development organization. The sport of finswimming is very different from other Olympic sports.

USFI organized its first National Finswimming Championships in Goa in the year 2021, in which 766 athletes from 21 states participated. It was an excellent campaign to provide technical knowledge of the new version of competitive swimming to the youth of the country.

The 2nd National Finswimming Championship 2022 Pune was held at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Pune, where 981 swimmers participated and the response and acceptance of the sport across the sports fraternity was very impressive. The 3rd Nationals were held in the year 2023 and a record number of around 1200 swimmers participated.
