5 Russian climbers died after slipping on Nepal’s Mount Dhaulagiri, contact was lost with the base camp

Kathmandu. Five Russian climbers died after slipping on Nepal’s 7,000 meter high Mount Dhaulagiri. According to Haley Everest Vice President Mingma Sherpa, these climbers started climbing this seventh highest peak in the world during autumn. Mingma himself is a mountaineer and was part of the search operation launched for the missing climbers.

The deceased have been identified as Alexander Dusheyko, Oleg Kruglov, Vladimir Chistikov, Mikhail Nosenko and Dmitry Shapilevoi. While climbing the peak, these climbers lost contact with the base camp at six in the morning.

Sherpa told that all these climbers were going towards the 8,167 meter high peak with the help of the same rope, when they went missing. After this the helicopter found him dead at an altitude of 7,700 meters.

Rakesh Gurung, director of Nepal’s tourism department, said that rescue work could not be done on Monday due to bad weather. He told that another Russian climber was rescued from the base camp by helicopter. However, it is not yet clear when and how these deceased climbers will be brought down from the high altitude area.

Meanwhile, a Polish hiker, Sowinska Agnieszka (23), also died while trekking in Suryakund area on the border of Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts of northern Nepal on Monday night. Police said that he died due to altitude sickness.
