50 years of Emergency-The entire cabinet, including PM, kept silence
A proposal was passed on the completion of 50 years of Emergency at a cabinet meeting chaired by PM Modi on Wednesday. After this, two minutes of silence were kept as a tribute to the victims of the Emergency.
Three major decisions were taken in the cabinet meeting. First- Rs 3626 crore passed for Pune Metro expansion. Second- Jharia (Jharkhand) A revised master plan of Rs 5940 crore for underground fire approved. Third- International Potato Center will be set up in Agra at a cost of Rs 111 crore.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, PM Modi wrote on social media x about the Emergency that the Congress had imprisoned democracy on this day. The freedom of the press was abolished. On this, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge replied that these people do all this to hide their mistake.
In fact, on 25 June 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi announced an emergency in the country. It was applicable for 21 March 1977 i.e. 21 months. The BJP celebrates this day as Constitution Husbandry Day.
Modi wrote about the Emergency, it is one of the most dark chapters in India’s democratic history. The people of India celebrate this day as Constitution Husbandry Day.
Protecting India’s democratic structure and maintaining the ideals for which our freedom fighters dedicated their lives. This is our duty.
This was their collective struggle, due to which the then Congress government had to restore democracy and held new elections, in which they lost badly.
We salute every person who is standing in the fight against the Emergency. People from different ideologies came from all over India, they worked with each other for a purpose.
PM said- I was a young campaigner of RSS during Emergency
The PM also mentioned a book called ‘The Emergency Diaries’ in its post. The PM wrote, when the emergency was imposed, I was the young preacher of RSS. The anti -emergency movement was an experience of learning for me.
This showed the importance of preserving our democratic structure. Also, I got to learn a lot from all the people of political spectrum.
I am glad that the Blueraft Digital Foundation has compiled some of the experiences as a book by HD Deve Gowda, who himself was a veteran of the anti -emergency movement.
