Recently some people saw a seven-foot sea creature in the middle of the beach. Its pictures had created a sensation on social media.

People were looking at the pictures of this unique creature and asking what is it? Scientists have finally found out what this creature is?

This unique creature was found on Gearhart Beach in Oregon, New Zealand. After the pictures of this giant creature went viral, a Kiwi scientist identified this giant creature. Seaside Aquarium revealed that the massive 7.3-foot fish is part of the sunfish family. This sunfish was seen on June 3.

“Initially, this large, strange-looking fish was causing quite a stir on social media and even though there was a storm, people were flocking to the beach to see this unusual fish,” the aquarium shared on Facebook.

Marianne Nygard of New Zealand recently identified this fish as a different species from the common sea sunfish or Mola Mola after studying it. “The photos she saw revealed that it might not be a common oceanic sunfish (Mola mola), but a different species than the one she was very familiar with, the hoodwinker sunfish (Mola tecta),” the aquarium said.

As the Mirror reports, it was Nygard’s research that led to the discovery and description of this new sunfish species, which he published in 2017. It was termed as a new species which is not easily visible in general. Its discovery was possible due to genetic sampling.
