99% of people do not know this rule of cricket: Shubman Gill may be fined, ICC can be sentenced, you will also fly your senses knowing the reason
Shubman Gill made a brilliant start of his term by scoring the first century as India’s Test captain in the first match of the five -Test series against England at Headingley. The 24 -year -old scored 127 unbeaten on the first day’s play. This is Shubman’s sixth Test century and another foreign century.
With this century, Gill joined the group of Indian captains who scored a century at their captaincy debut, including veterans like Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar and Virat Kohli. However, despite a great start, Gill can find himself in trouble due to a reason.
Indeed, the International Cricket Council (ICC) can take action on them due to their socks. The 24 -year -old player may face disciplinary action for possible violations of ICC’s dress code rules. During his innings on the first day, Gill was seen wearing black socks, while white socks are worn with traditional white jersey. These may be a violation of ICC’s clothing and equipment rules, which follow the guidelines prescribed by the Marylebon Cricket Club (MCC), which is the patron of the rules of the game.
According to section 19.45 of the ICC’s updated rules (effective from May 2023), players are allowed only to wear “white, cream or light brown” in Test matches. While players in limited overs cricket are allowed to wear socks matching the original color of their trousers, the rules are more strict in the test. In such a situation, whether Gill will be punished or not, it now depends on the assessment of the match referee. If the violation is considered deliberate Level 1 offense, they can be fined 10 to 20 percent of the match fees.
However, if it is found that the violation was accidental, for example, if they had white socks unavailable or unwilling to use, they are likely to avoid their punishment.
