Apple and meta fined: The European Commission on Wednesday imposed a fine of crores of euros on technology companies- Apple and Meta. The penalty has been imposed for violating the Digital Competition Rules of the European Union, a group of 27 countries of companies. Apple fined Apple to prevent users out of their app store to prevent the app manufacturers from pointing to cheap options outside their app store. The Commission also imposed a fine of 200 million euros on the meta platforms as it forced Facebook and Instagram users to select between the advertisements to see or pay for them.

The European Commission imposed a fine of 50 million euros ($ 57.1 million) on Apple to prevent users from pointing users out of their app store from outside their app store. The European Commission, the executive unit of the European Union, also imposed a fine of 200 million euros on the meta platforms as it had forced Facebook and Instagram users to select between the advertisement to see or pay for them.

These punishment are less than the huge fine of billions of euros, which the Commission imposed on large technology companies in earlier competition matters. The decision was expected to be taken in March, but the authorities stopped it due to the growing trade war with US President Donald Trump. Trump has repeatedly complained that American companies are being affected by the regulation of Brussels.

The fine has been imposed under the European Union’s Digital Market Act (DMA). It is a comprehensive rule book that gives more options to consumers and companies and described ‘what to do and what not to do’ designed to prevent dominance on digital markets of large technology companies. (Language)
