On June 3, 2013, there was news about Jia Khan, which surprised everyone. Zia Khan had achieved fame at the age of 19, but at the age of 25, she committed suicide and her move shook the entire industry. Zia was found dead in an apartment in Juhu, Mumbai, after which her boyfriend Suraj Pancholi was accused of abetting her for suicide. After a legal battle that lasted for about 10 years, in 2023, the CBI Special Court acquitted Suraj Pancholi due to lack of evidence. Now Suraj Pancholi’s mother and veteran actress Zarina Bahawt spoke openly about Jia Khan’s suicide and the allegations against her son and also claimed that when Jia Khan died, he and Suraj were not together.

Zarina Bahav, in a conversation with Nayandeep Rakshit, talked about the era of her son Suraj Pancholi’s life when she was going through the worst and difficult phase in the Jia Khan suicide case. Meanwhile, he said that when Jia Khan died, Suraj Pancholi had a breakup with him. That is, Jia and Suraj were not together at that time.

Then he went and said to him, my parents do not want us to meet and your mother does not want to meet. So let’s break up. Then he said, ‘Can I meet you sometimes?’ So he said to him, ‘You can meet me as a friend, but not as a girlfriend.’ The incident took place a month before his breakup. Nobody knows about this. In fact, she was going to South for a Telugu film around the same time in June. However, she was rejected on the last occasion and became very sad.

Zarina Bahav further explained that Jia had tried to contact Suraj on the day of suicide. She says- “She was so sad that she was trying to call Suraj. But, her class was running due to the shooting. She could not pick up her phone and when she later saw her phone, she messaged her, ‘I am free now, if you want to call me, call.’ But by then she had died. And now everyone says that she did it … it was very wrong.

Zarina also said that Jia was refused for a Telugu film, for which Rakul Preet Singh was finally cast. When she told Suraj that she was trying her luck in South, Suraj also sent her a bouquet. “Whatever happened was not good, but people misunderstood. How many people can you explain things?
