When a thief stole Rani Ahilyabai Holkar’s gold swing
Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar: Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar was born on May 31, 1725 in Chandi village of Maharashtra. The Madhya Pradesh government is celebrating their 300th birth anniversary this time. In the year 1733, Ahilyabai was married to Khanderao. At that time Ahilyabai was just 8 years old. Khanderao was 2 years older than Ahilyabai. Ahilyabai came to Maheshwar after marriage. In 1745, he had a son, Malerao Holkar and in 1748, he had a daughter Muktabai. In 1754, there was darkness in Ahilyabai’s life. Husband Khanderao Veeragati was attained during a war. After this, he had to handle the Rajpat. Ahilyabai was a great Shiva devotee. There are many interesting stories related to his life. One of them is the story of a thief.
In many miraculous stories of Goddess Ahilyabai, one anecdote is of her gold swing. Mother Ahilyabai’s gold swing is said to be in Rajbada (fort) in Maheshwar. Years ago, some thieves dared to steal him. The thieves easily stole him and took him to around 25-30 km around Dhargaon in the east, but before crossing Dhargaon, he suddenly lost his eyes and he was caught.
Actually, this jhula was of Lord Krishna in which Balagopal was burnt. Even today, Ahilyabai’s private worship house is located next to the Rajwada campus of Maheshwar, where Ahilyabai used to worship God. It was here that he was kept in gold. It was built for Lord Krishna and it was also an important item of Ahilyabai’s worship house. The swing is still in the house of worship next to the Rajwada campus of Maheshwar, where people come to see him.
