In 1995, he received the ‘Kalamamani’ award. In 2002, the Government of India honored him with ‘Padma Shri’. Apart from this, he also won the National Film Award for the film ‘Pudhia Pathi’. Manorama was married to SM Ramanathan, the manager of her drama troupe in the year 1954. She had a son Bhupathi in 1955, but shortly after her birth, her husband left him citing astrologer. This incident put Manorama in deep shock, but she raised her son alone. He did not marry again and focused on his career. Manorama’s life was a wonderful confluence of cinema and politics. He worked in films with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister CN Annadurai, MG Karunanidhi, MG Ramachandran, J Jayalalithaa and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao.
