Sharmistha Panoli gets bail from Calcutta High Court, imposed these conditions

Social media influencer and law students Sharmishtha Panoli have got relief from the Calcutta High Court. The court has granted interim bail to Sharmishtha, who is jailed for hurting religious sentiments. Sharmishtha was arrested by Kolkata Police from Gurugram.

The High Court has granted bail to Sharmistha on a bond of Rs 10,000. The court also ordered that if Sharmishtha gets any threats about his post, the state police should provide them protection.

The court said that there is no need to interrogate Sharmistha in custody because there is no plan to leave the country and run away. However, Sharmistha will have to submit his passport for investigation.

What was the matter

Sharmistha Panoli shared videos on social media after Operation Sindoor. In a video, she was seen making religious comments. After the protest, Sharmishtha deleted the video and apologized. But the matter did not cool down. A case was filed against Sharmistha in Kolkata.

The court then issued an arrest warrant against Sharmishtha. He was arrested by Kolkata Police on 30 May from Gurugram. After the arrest, Sharmishtha was taken to Kolkata on police transit remand and was produced in court. The court sent Sharmishtha to judicial custody for 14 days.
