New Delhi: As Karva Chauth is around the corner, expert shared tips for women at 50 who are willing to fast for the day. While fasting has multiple health benefits, people at certain age group can suffer a number of side effects. During this tradition, women avoid all kind of eating and drinking items throughout the day.

Dr Archana Dhawan Bajaj, Gynecologist, Obstetrician & IVF Expert, Nurture IVF Clinic said, “Before you embark on your journey to fasting on Karva Chauth, it is essential to consult your healthcare provider. This is especially important for those with pre-existing health conditions to ensure that fasting will not affect your health negatively.”

Even though Karva Chauth is considered a biggest festival for married women, women with underlying health issues such as hypertension, high blood sugar or any other medical condition that requires a stable diet and regular medication should consider staying away from fasting as it could disrupt their health management.

Dr Bajaj said, “Also, women who have recently recovered from an illness or surgery should prioritise their health and well being over fasting as your body needs time to regain strength. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also avoid fasting as it can have adverse effects on both the mother and child. Proper nutrition and hydration are crucial during these life stages.”

Stay Hydrated: It is important to keep yourself well hydrated by drinking enough water during the non-fasting hours to avoid dehydration. It can be particularly challenging for women of a certain age.

Choose a healthy diet: “As you observe the day long fast, it is equally important to focus on consuming a well-balanced and nutritious diet when you break your fast. Make sure to include foods rich in protein, fiber, and essential nutrients. This will help in maintaining your energy levels and overall health,” she added.
