According to media reports, a Delhi-based lawyer recently received three missed calls from an unknown number, after which the woman called back and the man introduced himself as a courier delivery agent and got her home address. Shortly afterward, the woman received a text alert that money had been debited from her bank account without permission. He did not share any OTP or account details, yet lakhs of rupees were withdrawn from his account.
What is SIM Swap Scam?
In SIM swap scam, cyber criminals get a new SIM issued by the telecom company on the basis of your fake documents, after which whenever they do any transaction, its OTP does not come to you but to the cyber criminals, after which in the blink of an eye The entire amount is withdrawn from your account and your account balance becomes zero.
How to protect yourself from SIM swap scams
- If someone asks you for personal information in the name of a telecom company or bank, then you should not share your personal information with him.
- To avoid SIM swap you should generate a password PIN with your mobile operator.
- If you get a call from an unknown number, you should be careful and not share any personal information.
- Activate SIM locking in your mobile, this way no one can use your SIM card again.
- Activate two-way authentication on e-mail and banking apps.
