Mahindra takes a big step towards the production of Thar Electric, this edition will be available soon

auto news desk,The Mahindra Thar (Thar.E) electric SUV, which was presented as a concept in August, is now officially ready in India, marking an important step towards its production. Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra has confirmed the production of this electric SUV. Although the official launch schedule has not been announced yet, it is expected to hit the market in the next 2 to 3 years. Homologation guarantees that a vehicle meets the necessary technical and legal requirements to be considered roadworthy, including a thorough assessment of performance, emissions, safety features and manufacturing standards.

Mahindra Thar Power Project
The Mahindra Thar.E concept model offers rugged appeal with features like high ground clearance, square fenders and flat panels. At the front, the SUV gets a rectangular grille with three LED slat elements, quartered and square headlights and a strong bumper, while the rear sports a compact utilitarian profile.

Mahindra Thar Electric Platform
The conventional ICE is based on the Thar ladder chassis, while the electric Thar is designed on Mahindra’s updated INGLO-P1 dedicated EV platform. This skateboard-style architecture is multifunctional, able to adapt to different heights and wheelbase lengths, making it perfect for future electric SUVs. The wheelbase of the Mahindra Thar electric SUV is expected to be longer than that of its ICE model.

Inside, the Mahindra Thar.E features a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with flat top and bottom, a unique gear lever and a long center console with region-based drive mode controls. The SUV’s seats feature a flat design with a square pattern, sturdy handles and attractive red accents, along with a touchscreen integrated into the dashboard.

Mahindra will initially buy the batteries and motor for its skateboard-based electric SUV, and the electric Thar will likely use a more powerful electric powertrain supplied by Volkswagen. The company has already confirmed that its upcoming electric SUV equipped with a large 80 kWh battery is expected to achieve a WLTP cycle range of around 435-450 km.
