French Open 2025: Coco Goff defeated No-1 Sabalenka, created history by winning the second Grand Slam of career!
In the women’s singles finals of French Open 2025 played at Rolan Gonan, Paris, America’s Coco Gauff won a tremendous comeback, defeating the world’s number-1 player Aryana Sabalenka and won the first French Open of her career and the second GrandSlam title.
The 21-year-old Goff won the match 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4. The final lasted for 2 hours and 38 minutes, in which Goff surprised the top seed Sabalanka with luxurious restraint and rhythm. In this match, he made a comeback and won.
2022 Revenge of defeat
Coco Gauff also reached the finals of French Open in 2022, but then had to face defeat against IGA Swiatek. This time he overturned the match despite trailing in the first set, showing experience and maturity. This is Goff’s second Grand Slam title. Earlier, he created history by winning the US Open in 2023.
The first American player to win French Open after Serena Williams:
With this title win, Coco Goff made many big achievements. She became the first American woman player to win the French Open after Serena Williams in 2015. Apart from this, she has also become the youngest American women’s tennis player to win both the US Open and French Open – a record that Serena established in 2002.
Sublanga was dominating in the previous clash
Prior to this final, Goff and Sabalenka had a previous collision at Madrid Open in May, where Sabalenka became the winner. Sabalanka is currently in excellent form and has also won three titles this season. Sabalanka, who won the Grand Slam like Australian Open 2023 and 2024 and US Open 2024,, however, suffered a defeat at the hands of Goff on the red clay of the French Open.
