UP boy burns, tramples scarfs with ‘Jai Shri Ram’, ‘Om’ printed on them

Lucknow: In a shocking incident, a boy in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district was allegedly caught on camera burning and trampling scarfs with ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Om’ printed on them. A purported video of the incident has gone viral on social media. In the widely-shared clip, the boy, a Class 11 student, can be seen burning the scarfs while another youth records him doing the act.
What is the case?
A case has been lodged at the Ghorawal police station against the two boys in connection with the incident, said police, adding that both the accused are minors. The two accused, both of whom were residents of a village in Sonbhadra, are students of Class 11 and Cass 10, police said.
The complainant one Prasun Kumar accused one of them of indulging in the act, and the other of making the video viral on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Circle Officer Amit Kumar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. Based on his complaint, a case has been registered against the accused. Police said legal action is being taken against the duo as per existing norms and further investigations are underway.
Earlier in August, a Class 11 student was thrashed by his teacher for allegedly chanting Jai Shri Ram slogans at a school in Greater Noida. In another incident, a teacher of a government school was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district after he wrote Jai Shri Ram on the classroom’s blackboard.
