Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday addressed an important meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Where he accused the present government of Tamil Nadu of corruption on DMK. He said that during the last four years, the DMK has crossed all the boundaries of corruption. He accused the government that the DMK government has made a tremendous scandal in the nutrition kit of Rs 450 crore given by the Center. The government deprived the poor by handing over these nutrition kits to the private company. He further said, “I live in Delhi, but my ears are engaged in Tamil Nadu. The Chief Minister here says that Amit Shah cannot beat DMK. Stalin Saheb is right, I cannot beat DMK, but the people of Tamil Nadu can defeat DMK.”
Stalin government did not fulfill the promises made to the public
Counting the long list of scams by the DMK government, he said, “I have a long list of corruption made by the MK Stalin government.” He also alleged that the Stalin government has not been able to fulfill even 60 percent of its election promises. Along with this, Amit Shah also claimed that the DMK government has done illegal sand mining scam worth Rs 4600 crore. Which has directly affected the poor of the state and people had to buy expensive sand and the party grabbed all these scams. Also, he also mentioned the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmak) scam. In which Shah accused the state of causing a loss of Rs 39,000 crore.
Meeting for Tamil Nadu assembly elections to be held in 2026
Hundreds of activists and senior leaders from all over Tamil Nadu attended this huge gathering of Amit Shah. Tamil Nadu BJP state, district and divisional level officials participated in this meeting. Shah’s visit is considered very important to strengthen the preparations for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections to be held in 2026 and to strengthen the party’s organizational structure even more.
Tour started with darshan at Meenakshi temple
Amit Shah arrived in Madurai late Saturday, where he was welcomed by Tamil Nadu BJP leader Tamilisai Saundararajan and other leaders. On Sunday morning, he visited the Meenakshi temple. After visiting the temple, Shah started the day with the chairmanship of the Tamil Nadu BJP’s State Core Committee meeting.

DMK government targeted
In the core committee meeting, Shah fiercely attacked the ruling DMK government of Tamil Nadu. He said, “The people of Tamil Nadu are fed up with the widespread corruption of the DMK government. BJP workers will reach every street, locality and home and take the vision of the rich and developed Tamil Nadu of NDA under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people.” Shah called upon the workers to unite and run a strong campaign against DMK.
2026 emphasis on strategy for election
Shah discussed the strategy for the 2026 assembly elections in detail in the meeting. He emphasized on strengthening the booth-level organization, conducting voter awareness campaign and making the NDA alliance more comprehensive. The BJP recently renovated the alliance with AIADMK, which was formally declared by Shah in Chennai on 11 April 2025. This alliance is being seen as a strong alternative against DMK in Tamil Nadu.
In the afternoon, Shah held a closed room with local leaders, strategists and regional influential persons. The purpose of these meetings was to further strengthen the BJP’s grassroots strategy and identify potential colleagues. Subsequently, at 4 pm, Shah addressed a huge gathering at the Velmal Global Hospital Ground in Othakdai, which included hundreds of activists and senior leaders from all over Tamil Nadu.

Importance of AIADMK-BJP alliance
Shah’s visit is also considered important from the perspective of further strengthening the AIADMK-BJP alliance. BJP’s national co-integrated P. Sudhakar Reddy said, “Shah’s visit focuses on strengthening the party’s organizational structure and preparing a roadmap for 2026 elections.” Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson ANS Prasad claimed that Shah’s visit has proved to be a “shock” for DMK and his colleagues.
Enthusiasm among workers
Shah’s visit saw huge enthusiasm among BJP workers. Tamil Nadu BJP leader Tamilisai Saundararajan said, “Amit Shah’s Madurai tour will communicate new energy among our workers and leaders. It will prepare us to face the 2026 election challenges.” The activists described Shah’s address as “inspirational” and said that it is an important step towards the expansion of BJP in Tamil Nadu.
