Sachin Tendulkar overturned the decision! Now the name of ‘Pataudi Trophy’ will not change, Jai Shah played an important role
A big update has come out between India and England about the five -Test series starting on June 20. The England and Wales Cricket Board recently announced the renaming of the Pataudi Trophy to “Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy”, but now the decision has a break. According to reports, both ECB and BCCI boards have agreed to retain the name of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and ICC Chairman Jai Shah.
Sachin Tendulkar’s intervention changed the whole game
According to Cricbuzz report, India’s legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar took the issue seriously and interacted with both boards. He believed that the contribution of the Pataudi family to Indian and English cricket has been priceless, which cannot be forgotten. ICC Chairman Jai Shah also played an important role in this initiative and stressed the need to honor the name Pataudi.
The plan to launch the trophy was postponed
The launch of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was planned on the fourth day of the WTC final, but it was postponed due to the lives of 241 people in the Ahmedabad aircraft accident. According to the Hindustan Times report, the boards decided that it would not be appropriate to launch the trophy in such a sad time.
Why is the Pataudi Trophy important?
In 2007, the first Pataudi Trophy began between India and England. The trophy was named in honor of Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who became India’s youngest captain at the age of just 21. His father Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi also played Test cricket for both India and England.
Anderson and Tendulkar: Honor two great players
The new trophy proposed by ECB was named after England’s most successful fast bowler James Anderson and Test cricket’s biggest run scorer Sachin Tendulkar. Anderson retired from international cricket in July 2024 and has 704 wickets in 188 Tests. At the same time, Sachin Tendulkar has scored 15,921 runs in the Test.
