Mukesh Ambani Reliance Industries led by Reliance Industries has appointed Anant Ambani as full -time director. Their appointment will start from May 1, 2025 and will be for a period of five years. The company said in an exchange filing, “The company’s board of directors in its meeting today, considering the recommendation of HR, Enrollment and Relations Committee, has been appointed as the company’s non-executive director Anant M. Ambani as the full-time director of the company.”
Earlier there were non-executive directors
Prior to this new role, Anant Ambani was working as a non-executive director in Reliance’s board. They are part of the board of companies of several Reliance Group like Jio Platforms, Reliance Retail Ventures, Reliance New Energy and Reliance New Solar Energy. Anant has also been a board member of Reliance Foundation since September 2022. He has played an important role in Vantara, which is considered the world’s largest animal rescue and rehabilitation center.
Akash and Isha have this responsibility
Anant’s siblings, Akash Ambani and Isha Ambani, are currently working as a non-executive director in the Reliance Board. Akash is also the chairman of the Group’s Telecom and Digital Services Branch, Reliance Jio Infocomm. At the same time, Isha is the Executive Director in Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, the retail branch of Group.
This firm advised a vote against the proposal
According to a report by Bloomberg News in 2023, an international proxy advisory firm, institutional shareholder services ink. Had advised the shareholders to vote against the proposal to appoint Anant Ambani on the board due to age -related concerns. The report quoted the ISS as saying, “It is appropriate to vote against this proposal, as Anant Ambani’s limited leadership/board experience increases concerns over his possible contribution to the board.” However, the proxy advisory firm supported the appointment of Akash Ambani and Isha Ambani.

Meanwhile, the report further mentions that another international proxy firm, Glass Lewis supported Anant’s appointment. The report quoted Glass Lewis’s Asia-Pacific Research Director Decky Windarto as saying, “We do not separate Anant Ambani from other siblings based on experience.” “We noted that the other two directors standing for the election are only three years older than Anant, who have similar professional experiences,” he said.
