ED Questions on Cricketers for Online Betting Scam:
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified the investigation of a large case related to online betting. Former Indian cricketers Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina have been questioned in this connection. Apart from these legendary cricketers, Bollywood actor Sonu Sood and actress Urvashi Rautela are also on the radar of ED and they have also been questioned.

According to sources, the ED had made the role of these celebrities in promoting banned betting apps like 1xbet, Fairplay, Parimatch and Lotus365. According to a report by NDTV Profit, these platforms run surrogate advertisements through names like ‘1xbat’ and through QR code, users were rushed to betting sites, which is directly a violation of Indian law. Violation of many laws and ministerial advice

Initial investigations by ED have revealed that advertisements made by these famous celebrities can violate many important laws. These include the Information Technology Act, Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and benami transactions. Along with this, the advice issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Electronics and IT has also been ignored, which has been asked to avoid promoting betting and gambling. According to the report, the official confirmed that “some famous celebrities have already been issued notices, while others are likely to be released soon”.

In connection with this inquiry, media representatives of former cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina have refused to comment. During the investigation, the ED also found that these betting apps are shown as a “skill-based game”, while in fact they are gambling based on luck. Officials said that these platforms have campaigned heavy with famous celebrities and social media affected, due to which a large number of youth and students are falling prey to it.

It was also told in the report that school children are leaving their studies and the college students are putting tuition fees at stake. The economic loss is detected when the situation becomes uncontrollable.
