Patna: The Vande Bharat Express will now connect Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh to Patna, the capital of Bihar, across a 539 km distance. The Vande Bharat Express is a semi-superfast train that only houses chair cars in air-conditioned and executive classes. Most trains are deployed in rakes of 8 coaches with 7 AC coaches and 1 executive class coach.
While the launch date is undetermined as of date, the rakes have been handed over to the railways’ board, the Hindustan reported, citing rail coach factory officials. The railway’s Lucknow and Moradabad divisions have also conducted a survey regarding Vande Bharat Express connectivity between Lucknow and Dehradun.
Patna-Lucknow Vande Bharat Express Route
The Vande Bharat Express between Patna and Lucknow will pass through Sultanpur, according to the Northern Railway’s Lucknow division.
The tentative route is as follows:

The Shramjeevi Express, the fastest train on this route takes the following stops:
- Phulwari Sharif
- Danapur
- Bihta
- Ara
- Bihiya

- Sultanpur

Patna-Lucknow Vande Bharat Express timings
The Patna-Lucknow Vande Bharat Express is expected to start from Lucknow in the morning and reach Patna the same evening. It is then expected to start from Patna at night and reach Lucknow the next morning.
For comparison, the Shramjeevi Express covers the distance between Patna and Lucknow in 9.25 hours starting from Patna junction at 10:30 am. It reaches Lucknow at 7:55 pm.
On the return journey, the train starts from Lucknow at 9:30 pm and reaches Patna junction the next morning at 7:05 am.
Patna-Lucknow Vande Bharat Express Fare
The Shramjeevi Express ticket fare between Patna and Lucknow is as follows:
- 1AC Rs 2,075 including Rs 99 GST and Rs 75 superfast charge
- 2AC Rs 1,250 including Rs 60 GST and Rs 45 superfast charge
- 3AC Rs 895 including Rs 43 GST and Rs 45 superfast charge
The Vande Bharat Express fare is likely to range between the second and first AC fare for the AC Chair Car segment. The Executive Chair Car fare is expected to be higher than the first AC fare on the Shramjeevi Express.
