According to the report, students who use tools such as constant Chatgpt reduce their using the natural ability to think and analyze. This slows down their critical thinking, ie critical thinking and the ability to understand a subject deeply. This is a worrying sign, especially in the field of education, where self -sufficiency and creativity are considered extremely important.

This study also indicated that the brain of the students actively acts actively when they consider a problem by themselves, find solutions and express views in their words. Conversely, when a direct answer to a question is found from AI, the activity of the brain decreases significantly.

What is study?

A study conducted by MIT Media Lab divided a total of 54 participants between the ages of 18 to 39 into three different categories. The first was the group that was using AI tools such as Chatgpt during essay writing, the second group was resorting to Google search, while the third group did not use any type of digital medium. All participants were entrusted with the task of writing essays based on SAT pattern. During this period, brain activity was measured through electroinesphalography (EEG) technology on 32 specific locations of the participants, to find out how the use of different tools affects the ability to think and understand.

What was the result of the study?

The results of this study were very interesting. Students who had resorted to Chatgpt were recorded the lowest activism in their brain. It was seen in the research that these participants were neither thinking deeply nor melting the answers in their language or style. Most students used the answers given by AI without any change. In contrast, participants who wrote essays without any digital assistance were found to be more active parts of their brain which are associated with memory, creativity and analytical thinking. At the same time, the group using Google search also saw a significant mental activity, indicating that traditional online search still inspires users to think and understand information.
