Government treasury shocked, direct tax collection reduced to 4.59 lakh crores, know the reason

According to the information given by the government on Saturday, the net direct tax collection in the current financial year (2025-26) declined by 1.39 percent to Rs 4.59 lakh crore on an annual basis. The net direct tax collection stood at around Rs 4.59 lakh crore from April 1 to June 19, 2025, which is 1.39 percent less than Rs 4.65 lakh crore collected in the same period in 2024. So far, the release of refunds has increased by 58 percent in the current financial year and it has increased to Rs 86,385 crore.
There is also a slight edge in advance tax collection
According to the data, the advance tax collection from April 1 to June 19, 2025 increased by just 3.87 percent to Rs 1.56 lakh crore. In the comparative period last year, an annual growth of 27 percent was recorded in the advance tax collection. During April 1 to June 19, 2025, the corporate tax collection saw a softening of about Rs 1.73 lakh crore, a decline of more than five percent compared to the previous year. However, the non-corporate tax collection, which mainly includes individual income tax, stood at a slight increase of 0.7 percent to Rs 2.73 lakh crore. During this period, securities transactions (STT) increased by 12 percent to Rs 13,013 crore.
Gross direct tax collection increased
So far, the gross direct tax collection in the current financial year has been Rs 5.45 lakh crore, which is 4.86 percent more than the same period of a year ago. Advance tax collection in corporate tax increased by 5.86 percent to Rs 1.22 lakh crore, while non-corporate tax collection declined by 2.68 percent to Rs 33,928 crore. Overall, the advance tax collection from April 1 to June 19, 2025 increased by 3.87 percent to Rs 1.55 lakh crore.
