India, along with Ireland and Canada, remembered those who lost their lives and paid homage

Ahakista: On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Air India Flight 182 (Kanishka) bomb blast in Ahakista, Cork, Ireland, India along with Ireland and Canada recalled and paid tribute to those who lost their lives. On this occasion, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the international community will have to unite against terrorism. He said, ‘The world needs to unite. This should not only be seen in different incidents of these serious mourning but also in collective active efforts to deal with terrorism.

What was Air India Kanishka explosion?

The tragedy of 23 June 1985 was heartbreaking. Air India flight number 182 was destroyed in the air with a bomb planted by Canadian terrorists. All 329 people, including more than 80 children, were killed in the incident. On this incident, Hardeep Singh Puri said, “This tragedy was not an accident, but a deliberate heinous act performed by extremist elements wishing to divide India.”

The minister insisted that terrorism and extremism is not a problem of the past, but a problem of the present time which is endangering the lives of innocent people worldwide. He said, ‘India has been struggling with the havoc of terrorism for decades. From Jammu and Kashmir to Punjab and Mumbai, from time to time our people have endured bombings, murders and atrocities. He said that countries around the world are struggling with this problem. He also emphasized that in 2024 deaths related to global terrorism have increased by 22 percent.
