Islamabad: Pakistan and China are working on the proposal to establish a new regional organization, which can replace the almost inactive South Asian Regional Cooperation Organization (SAARC). This claim has been made in a news on Monday. The ‘Express Tribune’ newspaper wrote that the talks between Islamabad and Beijing are now in front, quoting the developed diplomatic sources aware of this development, as both sides are convinced that a new organization is necessary for regional integration and contact.

The meeting is held in Kunming, China

Citing sources, the newspaper said that this new organization can potentially replace regional organization SAARC (SAARC). SAARC includes India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He said that the recent tripartite meeting of Pakistan, China and Bangladesh in Kunming, China was part of these diplomatic efforts.

What did Bangladesh say?

According to sources, its goal is to invite other South Asian countries, which were part of SAARC (SAARC), to join the new group. However, the interim government of Bangladesh rejected the idea of any emerging coalition between Dhaka, Beijing and Islamabad and said the meeting was not ‘political’. Foreign Affairs advisor M Tauheed Hussain said, “We are not forming any alliance.”

Will the new alliance replace SAARC?

According to sources, India will be invited to the new proposed platform, while countries like Sri Lanka, Maldives and Afghanistan may also be part of it. The newspaper said that the main objective of the new organization is to explore the possibility of more regional engagement by increasing trade and contact. It states that if the proposal is embodied, it will replace SAARC, which has been suspended for a long time due to the India-Pakistan conflict.

Learn what happened?

There has been no biennial summit of SAARC since the summit in Kathmandu in 2014. In 2016, SAARC’s summit was to be held in Islamabad. However, after the terrorist attack on the Indian Army camp in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir on September 18 that year, India expressed his inability to attend the summit due to the ‘current circumstances’. The summit was canceled after Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan refused to attend the meeting. (Language)
