It is said that Bajirao Peshwa died on 28 April 1740 due to a heart attack at the age of 39. At that time he stayed in Khargone city near Indore. Some historians say that Bajirao died in Malwa due to heat stroke in Raverkhedi along the Narmada. His second wife Mastani also died on the same day.

Mastani of Bajirao: Mastani is said to be very beautiful. Mastani was the daughter of Maharaja Chhatrasal Bundela, founder of Panna State of Bundelkhand. His mother Ruhani Bai was a dancer in the Raj Durbar of Nizam in Hyderabad. Some people also say that Mastani was adopted by Maharaja Chhatrasal. Mastani was raised in Mau Shania, 15 km from Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. There is also a Mastani palace in the name of Mastani at this place. In addition to dance, Mastani had complete training in politics, warfare, fencing and household chores.

During 1727-28, the state of Maharaja Chhatrasal was attacked by Muslim ruler Mohammad Khan Bangash. Seeing the risk of himself increasing, Chhatrasal demanded help from Bajirao. Bajirao helped Chhatrasal and saved his empire from Mohammad Bangash.

Chhatrasal was very happy with the help of Bajirao and started thinking of himself as his debtor. To take off this debt, Chhatrasal proposed to marry his daughter Mastani to Bajirao. However, Bajirao was giving heart to Mastani at first sight. He accepted this proposal. He made Mastani his second wife. Before Mastani, he was married to a woman named Kashibai.

However, some people also believe that Mastani was the daughter of Nizam in Hyderabad. When the Nizam lost the war with Chhatrasal, he advised to marry his daughter Mastani to save his kingdom after the defeat. It was also aimed at this, due to which the Bundelon’s relationship with the Nizams would become stronger and thus the Nizams would have increased the impact on India. Although some people do not believe this fact, according to him she was neither the daughter of Nizam nor was Chhatrasal’s daughter. She was a kingdom in the court of Chhatrasal, on which Bajirao’s heart came.

After marriage to Mastani, Bajirao and Mastani had a son, named Shamsher Bahadur (Peshwa). For Mastani, Bajirao also built a royal palace in Kothrud, Pune. It is said that after marriage, Mastani lived in Shaniwarwada in Pune itself. It is said that Mastani had committed suicide by consuming poison after the death of Bajirao. Some people say that they drank the poison in their ring. At the same time, some people believe that she had become sati by jumping into the pyre of Bajirao. His death is reported in 1740.
