Who suspended the post of Thailand’s youngest Prime Minister Petongtarn Shinavatra from the post?
Tertongtarn Shinavatra, suspended Prime Minister of Thailand.
Bangkok: Thailand’s Prime Minister Tertongtarn Shinavatra has been suspended after serious allegations in a case. It is being told that the constitutional court of Thailand on Tuesday suspended the post until the investigation of the allegations related to morality is pending. This decision was taken after a call leaking of a phone conversation, in which she was seen taking a soft stand on the border dispute with a former Cambodia leader.
Court seeks reply within 15 days
The court has decided to suspend Prime Minister Shinavatra by a 7–2 majority. After this, Tertongtarn has been temporarily removed from the post of Prime Minister. In this case, the court has asked him to submit evidence in his defense within 15 days.
What is the whole matter?
Tertongtarn is alleged that he showed extreme flexibility in a diplomatic conversation held to resolve the recent border dispute with Cambodia. The phone call was with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen and later became public. On May 28, a Cambodian soldier also died in the same dispute, which created a wave of dissatisfaction and protest among the people.
Petongtarn’s response
Following the court’s decision, Petongtarn said that she accepts this order and will try to defend herself with full devotion. He said, “I did what I thought was necessary for the safety of the country and soldiers. If I had said something that had happened, I would not have accepted it myself.” He thanked his supporters and apologized to the angry people with the phone call leak.
What will be the path ahead?
The suspension of Petongtarn has increased the risk of political instability in Thailand again. The Prime Minister’s Office Minister Chausak Sirinil said that Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Surya Jungourungkit has been appointed as the acting Prime Minister.
