Porn content will not be seen on social media and OTT, Supreme Court shown strictly – Cross Talk India
OTT platforms
The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Government and directed to stop the pornographic content shared or shown on major OTT and social media platforms. The Supreme Court, while hearing a PIL, has directed the Central Government to take proper steps to ban the obscene contents like OTT platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, ULLU, ALTT and Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X (Twitter).
Show platform show social response
The Supreme Court made a sharp comment on these platforms, saying that the over the top and social media platforms also have social response to be present in the court when the hearing is going on on the pornographic content shown on the bench. The PIL filed in the court has demanded to ban such obscene content, in which the court has directed the central government to take appropriate action.
The PIL filed in the Supreme Court also demanded that the National Content Control Authority (NCC) monitor the content to be strengthened on these platforms and work to regulate them so that obscenity cannot be spread through OTT and social media platforms.
Center submitted regulations
The central government has already submitted several regulations about this and has assured to make it more strict in future. Accepting the argument of the Center, the court said that it wants to withdraw from the path of both the executive and the judiciary.
However, this is not the first case when a complaint has been made about pornographic content on OTT and social media platforms. The Central Government’s Information and Broadcasting (I & B) Ministry regulates the content to be broadcast on OTT. These rules not only apply to OTT platforms but also apply to online news platforms, social media platforms and other materials on the online platform.
