Washington: India’s fugitive Nirav Modi’s brother Nehal Deepak Modi has been arrested in America. It is being seen as a big success for India. The US Department of Justice has informed Indian officials that Nehal Modi, brother of fugitive economic criminal Nirav Modi, has been arrested in the US on 4 July. The arrest has been made on the basis of extradition request filed jointly by India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Investigation Bureau (CBI).
Arrest made under this section
The extradition was requested under the Criminal Conspiracy Section 120B, 201 Indian Penal Code and 3 Prevention of Money Laundering Act 2002. Along with Nirav Modi, Nehal Modi is also accused of scam of thousands of crores of rupees from Punjab National Bank. According to the investigation of CBI and ED, his brother Nehal Modi played an important role in executing this scam of Nirav Modi. The investigating agencies are also trying to extradite Nirav Modi from the UK. The next date of hearing is 17 July. In this, Nehal Modi can also appeal for bail and the US Authority will oppose the logic of Indian agencies.
