Manila: China has banned a former Philippines MP, following which Chinese Ambassador to Manila has been summoned. The Philippines officials have given information about this on Tuesday. MPs have been criticizing China’s aggressive actions in the disputed South China Sea. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said last week that it was banning the entry of former Philippines MP Francis Talentino in China and its regions Hong Kong and Macau. Talentino also accused China of planning to intervene in the mid -term elections in the Philippines in May. When he was an MP, he also started an investigation into alleged Chinese espionage.

‘Loss of China’s interests’

The Chinese Foreign Ministry had said that Talentino is one of the anti -China leaders who have resorted to “malicious words and actions”, which has damaged China’s interests. The Ministry of External Affairs said, “The Chinese government is firm to protect its national sovereignty, security and development interests.” China has also said that Francis Talentino’s statements have weakened the relationship between the two countries.

What did the Philippines officials say?

Philippines officials said that banning talentino is “incompatible with norms of mutual respect”. The Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila summoned Chinese Ambassador Huang Jillian and apprised him of its concern on China’s sanctions. The statement said, “Such restrictions come under China’s legal privilege, but implementing punitive measures for their official functions against democratically elected officials is incomplete with mutual respect and dialogue norms between two equal sovereign countries.”

China was angry with this

Talentino’s term in the Senate ended last month. He introduced two bills – the ‘Philippines Maritime Zone Act’ and ‘Philippines Archipljic Sea La La La La La La La La La La Laice’ – which confirm the rights of resources including the border of the Philippines and the South China Sea. He contested again but lost. The Philippines President Ferdinand Marocos Jr. signed both bills in November, which angered China. China claims almost the entire part of the disputed waterway. (AP)
