Kusal Mendis scored a century against Bangladesh, history after Sangakkara, only other Sri Lankan

In the third ODI between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Pallekele on Tuesday, July 8, Kusal Mendis performed a tremendous experience and class. The Sri Lankan team started to bat first after winning the toss. In the fourth over, Nishan Madushka was dismissed for just 1 run. After this, Pathum Nisanka scored 35 and Kamindu Mendis scored 16 runs and Sri Lanka’s three wickets fell early.

In such a situation, Kusal Mendis, who came to the crease, handled the innings with captain Charit Actors. The two together added 124 runs in 117 balls for the fourth wicket. During this, Mendis played his century in just 95 balls while playing very sensibly and played a brilliant innings of 124 runs in 114 balls which included 18 fours. He fiercely targeted Bangladeshi bowlers and played several classic shots in this innings.

With this brilliant innings, Kusal Mendis achieved another historical position. He has now become only the second Sri Lankan batsman to score more than 2000 runs in international cricket against Bangladesh. Before that, this record was only in the name of great wicketkeeper batsman Kumar Sangakkara.
