Worship of Mahaguru Dattatreya Lord on Guru Purnima:
1. Bathing, worship and purification: On the day of Guru Purnima, get up in the morning in Brahma Muhurta and take a bath and wear clean clothes.
– Cleaning of the place of worship: Clean your place of worship thoroughly. Put a red or white cloth on a post or slab.
– Murthy/Picture Installation: Install an idol or picture of Lord Dattatreya on this.
If there is no idol, then you can also install the idol of Lord Vishnu, Shiva or Brahma Ji, because Dattatreya is the combined form of these three.
2. Required Pooja Material:
– Statue/ Picture of Lord Dattatreya
– Ganga water for Abhishek
– White or yellow flowers, which are considered especially auspicious.
– Flower garland
– Sandalwood
– Kumkum/Roli
– Akshat/Rice
– Incense, ghee lamp
– Naivedya/Bhog: Barfi, Kalakand or other white sweets, fruits, milk, kheer or satvik sweets.
– Tulsi Dal
– Betel leaf,
– Betel
– Dakshina

3. Pooja Vidhi:
– Resolution: Before starting the puja, take water, flowers and akshat in your hand and take a pledge to fast or worship.
– Abhishek: Bath the statue of Lord Dattatreya with Ganga water. If there is a picture, spray it with Ganga water.
– Tilak: Apply sandalwood and kumkum tilak to God.
– Clothing and flowers: If there are idols, wear clean clothes, offer flowers and garlands.
– Incense-lamp: Light a lamp of pure ghee and incense.
– Offer naivedya: Offer fruits and sweets to God. Must offer Tulsi Dal.
4. Chanting Mantra: Chant the mantras of Lord Dattatreya as much as possible 108 times or more times.
– Basic Mantra: ‘Om Dran Dattatreya Namah’
– Dutt Gayatri Mantra: ‘Om Digambaraya Vidmahe, Yogishvaraya Dheemahi, Tanno Dutt: Prachodayat’
– Mahamantra: ‘Digambara-Digambara Shripad Vallabh Digambara’ It is auspicious to use Rudraksha garland for chanting mantra.
5. Stotra lesson: If possible, recite Shri Dattatreya Stotra or Avadhoot Gita. It is also considered helpful for freedom from Pitra dosha.
– Hindu ritual of worship: Perform the aarti of Lord Dattatreya at the end of worship. Also, you can sing aarti of any of the Tridevas/ Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh, because they are the form of them.
– PPSINA: After the Aarti 3 or 7 times, revolve around God.
– Pushpanjali: Finally, take flowers in your hand and offer a wreath to God and pray to him to fulfill your wishes and bless him.
– Prasad distribution: After the puja, distribute Prasad to devotees and family members.
