Kathmandu: At least 9 people died and 19 others went missing due to flooding of one river due to monsoon rains in Rasuwa district of Nepal. Also, the “Friendship Bridge” connecting the country to China has been washed away due to floods. The Bhotekoshi river in Nepal was flooded due to the torrential monsoon rains on Monday night in China. Dinesh Bhatt, Director General of National Disaster Risk Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRMA) told reporters, “So far 9 people have died, one person has been injured, 19 people are missing and 57 people have been rescued.”

Nepal government will give compensation

The Nepal government has announced a compensation of two lakh rupees to the families of those killed in the floods. The missing people include six Chinese citizens and three policemen. Bhatt said that a sudden flood on Tuesday in some parts of Rasuwa district in 120 km north-east from Kathmandu, completely damaged the Miteri bridge, Rasuvagarhi hydroelectric plant and parts of ‘Dry Port’ located near Nepal-China border. The Miteri bridge was washed away in the floods that came at around 3:30 am on Tuesday.

Power supply affected

23 cargo containers, six cargo trucks and 35 electric vehicles were also swept away in the river floods. The flood damaged four hydroelectric projects in the district, affecting the supply of at least 211 MW to the National Electrical Grid. (Language)
