On the birthday of PM Modi, 8 leopards from Namibia reached Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. He was brought to Jaipur from Boeing 747 to Jaipur and later to Gwalior … and then the helicopter was transported to Kua Park by helicopter. This historic move of PM Modi launched a multi-monkey restoration scheme called “Project Cheetah”, aims to bring back this dreaded species in India for almost 70 years.

Why did the cheetah become extinct in India?

It had 5 male and 3 female. These cheetahs were released on 17 September 2022 at the ‘Koono National Park’ in Madhya Pradesh on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. PM Modi himself left the cheetahs and described it as a historic step towards nature love and environmental protection “.

Why PM Modi settled leopards?

The land of India had become devoid of cheetah since 1952. What are the challenges in this project?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday thanked Namibia for cooperation in bringing cheetahs in India. He described it as “a strong story of cooperation, protection and compassion” between the two countries. Addressing the joint session of Namibia’s Parliament, Modi remembered the leaving the cheetahs personally at the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. He said, “There is a strong story of cooperation, protection and compassion between India and Namibia, when you helped us to resettle the cheetahs in our country. We are extremely grateful for this gift of yours.” Modi said in a light manner that the cheetahs “sent a message to you: everything is fine.” The Prime Minister said, “They (cheetahs) are happy and have been well cast in their new environment. Their number has also increased. Obviously, they are living with joy in India.
