But the question is, what is such a deep connection between Sawan and Shiva? And why is Bholenath considered to be the most loved day on Monday? Let’s know the mythological, religious and emotional aspects associated with this depth.
The month of Sawan and the union of Shiva element
Sawan, also known as ‘Shravan month’, is the fifth month of Hindu calendar. This is the time when nature is in its most beautiful form, greenery, cold winds, the sound of waterfalls and the communication of water around. This month is considered to be the time to receive the special grace of the gods, and the worship of Lord Shiva has special significance in that too.
According to mythological belief, this was the time when Lord Shiva, who came out during the churning of the ocean, was wearing it in his throat in the form of destructive. So that they are called ‘Neelkanth’. In order to calm the influence of poison, the gods offered Ganga water to him, and from then on the tradition of offering water to Shivling, which is specially played in Sawan till date.
According to religious beliefs, Mother Sati had vowed that she would receive Lord Shiva as her spouse in the next life as well. Due to this determination, he hurt his life and gave up his life. She then was born as Parvati as the daughter of Himalayan Raj. It is said that Goddess Parvati did severe penance in the month of Sawan to get Lord Shiva. Pleased with this devotion and harsh practice, Lord Shiva accepted him as his wife. For this reason, it is believed that Shiva is very dear to the month of Sawan, because this was the time when his Ardhangini meditated to get him.
According to another belief, Lord Vishnu goes to Yoganidra on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi, while Lord Shiva also enters a rest state on Chaturdashi. This special day is known as ‘Shyanotsav’. At this time Lord Shiva is in his rage form, which is called Rudravatar. It is believed that when Lord Shiva is in Rudra form, he can be very happy very quickly, but at the same time he becomes easily angry. For this reason, Rudrabhishek of Shiva is specially performed in the month of Sawan, so that he can be pleased and his blessings can be obtained. This worship removes negative energy and is considered helpful in bringing peace, prosperity and health in life.
Why is Bholenath’s most favorite day on Monday only?
In Hinduism, the relationship of seven days of the week has been linked to some deity. Monday (Som = Chandra) is related to Chandradev, and the Moon himself sits on Shiva’s forehead. This is the reason that Monday is considered to be a special day of Shiva. Mythological beliefs describe that whoever worships Shiva by observing a fast on Monday, his wish is fulfilled soon.
Every Monday of the month of Sawan is called ‘Shravan Somwar Vrat’. This fast, especially virgin girls, for the wish of a good groom, and married women for the happiness and peace of their married life. Men also worship Shiva on this day and wish for health, prosperity and peace.
