The Bihar government has taken a historic decision to give a new dimension to women empowerment. The state government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has announced that now 35 percent reservation in all government services will be reserved especially for women of the state. This decision is not only limited to data, but this change is a concrete step towards bringing women into the advance row at the administrative, social and economic level. The role of women in the growing Bhagidirihar of women from Panchayat to police has not been limited to the home. More than 50% of the leadership in gram panchayats, panchayat committees and district councils is now in the hands of women. Apart from this, the state government has identified 29 ideal women friendly gram panchayats, where the entire administrative responsibility is with women. It not only promotes women’s leadership, but also enhances women’s decision -making ability at the grassroots level. An example of economic empowerment: Jeevika Project Behar has the biggest example of women to become self -sufficient. Under this project launched in 2007, groups of 10 to 15 women are formed, which have their own bank account. So far, more than 1.35 crore families have joined livelihood. These women are active in areas such as nursery, kitchen gardens, solar products, health care, cooking units. More than 10 lakh women have been trained in health sectors. 45 health support centers are being operated completely by women. Women are not just running home, but are also driving vehicles. Statistics of Bihar’s Transport Department confirms this change: 29,417 women in Patna got driving license. Hamozaffarpur has 18,560 women licensed, licenses have been issued to 40,000+ women in Hapna Division. In the division, more than 33,000 women are licensed in the division. These women are not only demonstrating their freedom by driving confidently, but are also becoming examples for other women. In the police force, most women in the country have also topped Bihar women in Bihar Sansurafi forces. Bihar is the only state in the whole country where the number of women policemen is the highest. Currently, about 36,000 women personnel are employed in Bihar Police, which are more than 35% of the total police force of the state. All this has become possible due to the visionary policy of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. In 2006, he announced 35% reservation in all government jobs for women, which is now being implemented as a strong policy. The result of this decision is that the daughters of Bihar are making identity across the country today as a symbol of leadership, courage and duty. This change is very important not only for women, but also for the overall development of society. When women are empowered, the whole society is strong.
