Andhra Pradesh: Mango -filled truck overturned in Annamayya, 9 killed, 11 injured

A mango -laden truck overturned in Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh. At least nine people died in this accident. At the same time, 11 people were injured. The dead include five women. The injured were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment. The accident took place on Sunday night near Reddyacheruvu Katta in Pulmpet Mandal in the district. Mango was loaded in a truck that was a victim of the accident. People were also sitting on top of mangoes. More than 20 people were riding in this truck. The accident occurred in Reddy Cheruvu Katta, Pulmpeta Mandal, about 60 km from Kadappa city.
The accident happened at night time. The truck was going from Rajmpet to Railway Koduru with mangoes and people. According to the police, the accident occurred at around 9.30 pm on Sunday night. A police officer said, “This happened when the back wheel of a lorry got stuck in the sand and fell on a mini truck due to deteriorating balance.”
Chief Minister Naidu expressed grief
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu mourned the loss of life and property in the accident and questioned the officials about the cause of the accident. According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the officials told him that the victims were going from Rajmpet to Koduru, when the incident happened at night.
Government will help the family of the dead
The CMO said, “He also stated that proper medical facilities were being provided to the injured. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu assured that the government would provide full assistance to the families of the dead. He directed the officials to ensure quality medical facilities for those injured in the accident.”
Workers were returning after breaking mangoes
The truck had 30-40 tonnes of mangoes, and 21 daily wage laborers were also riding. These laborers went to Isukapalli and nearby villages of Rajmpeta to break the common mangoes. All the workers were from Railway Kodur and Venkatagiri Mandal in Tirupati district. Due to the overturning of the truck, the workers were buried under 30-40 tonnes of mangoes, killing eight laborers on the spot. Another laborer, Munichandra (38), succumbed to the hospital in Rajampet.
