New Delhi: The Supreme Court made important remarks while hearing the advance bail plea of a cartoonist arrested for allegedly making insulting cartoons of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). During the hearing on Monday, a bench of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Arvind Kumar expressed strong displeasure over the attitude of the cartoonist and expressed concern over deteriorating harmony in the society. The hearing of the case was postponed till Tuesday.

“Why do you do all this?”

A bench of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Arvind Kumar said, “You have seen the attitude of these people. There is no sensitivity in them. Justice Dhulia said why do you do all this?”

“Cartoons are bad or gross, but …”

Advocate Vrinda Grover, who is representing the cartoonist, argued that even though the cartoon is bad or gross, is it a crime? He said, “It can be objectionable, but this is not a crime. I am just in favor of the law, I am not trying to justify anything.”

“The country’s harmony is spoiled”

However, the Supreme Court said, “The harmony of the country deteriorates because of such people.” The bench said, “Later says that we apologize to finish the case. We are not doing anything today, they do what we want is not right.” The court did not give immediate relief to the cartoonist. During the hearing, the cartoonist’s lawyer said that his clients are ready to remove objectionable cartoons. The next hearing of the case will now be held on Tuesday.
