High import duty is a major obstacle
Tesla CEO Allen Musk had earlier expressed interest in investing in India, but he also stated that high import duty is a major obstacle. By the way, the recently announced India’s new EV policy offered low import duty and additional encouragement to attract foreign EV companies, which could pave the way for Tesla’s entry.
