Snake Worship in Shravan Month: Today, July 15, 2025, Tuesday is the fifth date of Krishna Paksha of Shravan month and this day is celebrated as Nag desert festival in many areas. Mangala Gauri Vrat also starts from this day, which is considered very special for Suhagins.
What is the Nag desert festival: In the month of Shravan, there are two Panchami dates- one in the Krishna Paksha and the other in the Shukla Paksha. Panchami of Krishna Paksha is celebrated as Nag Maruthala festival in some areas, while the Panchami of Shukla Paksha is celebrated the main Nag Panchami, which is being celebrated on 29 July 2025 this year.
The word ‘desert’ means desert or dry region. It is believed that in the areas where the serpents are more inhabited or where the serpents are more visible due to desert conditions, Nag Maruthala Panchami has special significance. This festival is celebrated to worship Nagas and express respect for them. This day is also called Mauna Panchami, especially in some parts of Bihar, where people fast on this day and fast.
History and mythological importance: Nagas have deep importance in Hinduism and mythology. He is worshiped as the necklace of Lord Shiva, the bed of Lord Vishnu and the patron of the Hades. There are some major things and beliefs related to Nag Maruthala festival and Nag Panchami:

• Origin stories: There are many mythological stories associated with Nag Panchami, such as the context of protecting the serpents by the sage believer, the Mardan of Kalia Nag by Lord Krishna, and the break of the snake yajna of Janmejaya. These stories reflect the importance of serpents and the reasons for their worship.
• Abhishek of water and panchamrit: On this day, the serpent deity is worshiped with Lord Shiva. Nagas are worshiped by Bambi or Bill and they are bathed with milk, water and panchamrit. However, keep in mind that instead of feeding the serpents, milk is offered on their statue or Bambi.
Special importance of today’s day: Today is the day of Shravan Krishna Panchami and it is also the day of the beginning of Mangala Gauri fast, so worshiping both Nag Devta and Mother Gauri on this day gives special benefits. It is considered auspicious for the long life of the husband, a happy married life and the wish of getting children.
