BJP said, how did the Modi government control inflation?
BJP on inflation: After retail inflation came down to 6 years low to 2.1 percent in June, the BJP on Tuesday appreciated the way the Narendra Modi -led government deal with inflation. According to the party, the average inflation under the BJP -led NDA rule has been 5.1 percent, while the Congress -led UPA government had an average of 8.1 percent.
BJP’s Information Technology (IT) department chief Amit Malviya said in his post on social media forum ‘X’ that when UPA was in power between January 2012 and April 2014, retail inflation was more than 9 percent in 22 months out of 28 months. Even many times it had reached double digits.
Malaviya said that in contrast, the Modi government kept retail inflation below five percent and never let it go above eight percent.
India’s Retail Inflation (CPI), or inflation, study at just 2.1% in the month of June.
Compare this to the upa era, when between January 2012 and April 2014, retail inflation was over 9% for a staggering 22 out of 28 months.

He said that during the last three -year tenure of the UPA, India was struggling with retail inflation of 9.8 percent on an average. It was worse in the sense that global inflation was relatively stable and between four to five percent at that time.
The National Statistics Office (NSO) said in a statement on Monday that the prices of food items including vegetables, pulses, meat and milk have reduced the retail inflation rate to 2.1 percent in June to 2.1 percent in June. The consumer price index based inflation (CPI) was 2.82 percent in May and 5.08 percent in June 2024.
