Student’s self -immolation in Balasore caught fire, 8 parties called for shutdown

A student of Fakir Mohan College, located in Balasore, Odisha, set herself on fire due to harassment. The student was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in critical condition, where she died late on Monday night. In this case, eight opposition parties under the leadership of the Congress have called for Odisha bandh for one day on July 17. Giving information about the incident, Odisha Congress President Bhakta Charan Das said that Odisha bandh has the support of eight parties including Left parties. He also claimed that the incident at Balasore’s Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College shows that the state government has failed to protect women. Attacking the ruling BJP, she said, “She brought petrol and kept watching everything quietly. CM announces compensation of compensation
The deceased student set herself on fire in the college campus on Saturday to protest against not taking action against a professor who has allegedly sexually assaulted. When the student was burnt 95 percent, she was rushed to the hospital in a hurry, where the student died late on Monday night. Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati also expressed grief over the death of the student. He said in a post on X, “I am shocked to hear the news of the untimely demise of a young student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College. She is not just a tragedy.
