- Patna. Preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar are in full swing, and the process of finalizing the new voter list is going on in this connection. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), more than 6.99 crore voters have submitted their forms before the new voter list to be published on 1 August 2025, which is 88.65% of the total registered voters.
- Out of this, about 6.47 crore applications have been successfully uploaded on online platforms, which is 81.96% of the total figure. However, there are still about 54 lakh such voters who have not yet filled the form, which has increased the concern of the Election Commission.
- Shocking figures revealed in BLO investigation
- Booth level officers (BLOS) appointed by the Election Commission went door-to-door in three phases and conducted a voter verification campaign. This extensive investigation revealed that around 35.7 lakh voters were not available at their given address.
- Of these:
- 12.55 lakh people are expected to die,
- 17.37 lakh people have permanently moved out of the state,
- And the names of 5.76 lakh voters have been found in two or more places.
- These figures are very important for the Election Commission, because it has given great information towards making the voter list pure and transparent.
- Election Commission is also including political parties
- The Election Commission is ensuring active participation of political parties to make this time more transparent and universal. From July 18, the Commission will share information about suspected voters with district presidents of various parties and 1.5 lakh booth level agents in all districts of the state.
- With this cooperation, political parties will be able to clarify the status of these cases by July 25 and any disturbance can be corrected in time. A separate verification campaign will be conducted for voters who remain unavailable despite the visit three times by BLO.
- Special camp for awareness in urban areas
- In order to increase the participation of urban voters, the Commission has decided to organize special camps in 5683 wards of 261 municipal bodies of the state. In these camps, voters will be able to update their records, give information about duplicate entries and can improve any kind of errors.
- The Election Commission has also clarified that the information of voters recorded at more than one place will be shared directly with political parties to make cross-checking and make the list clean.
- Possible elections in October-November, preparations caught speed
- Although the official date of Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 has not been announced yet, there are indications that elections may be held between October-November. In this context, it is very important to update and make the voter list updated in time.
