Ahmedabad aircraft accident: Indian pilot federation furious on report calling pilot wrong
Aircraft became victim of accident in Ahmedabad
The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has expressed displeasure over the report blaming the pilot for the Ahmedabad aircraft accident. The president of the organization CS Randhawa criticized the media report on Thursday. The report claimed that the captain of Air India aircraft, who crashed in Ahmedabad last month, deliberately stopped the engine fuel. Captain Randhawa dismissed these claims as baseless and asked to take action against the media institute.
Captain C.S. Randhawa emphasized that the preliminary report of the aircraft accident investigation (AAIB) has not said that a pilot had shut down the switch to a pilot to the engine. Captain CS Randhawa said, “It is not written anywhere in the report that the fuel control switch was closed due to the pilot’s mistake. I condemn this article. He said that it was the pilot’s fault. He has not read the report properly and we will take action against them through FIP.”
Appeal to people not to make a statement on initial report
Captain Randhawa urged people not to comment on the initial report of AAIB, as it could cause fear among passengers about air travel. Captain Randhawa said, “We had issued a statement yesterday that no channel, commentator or president of any agency should give such an opinion that has no basis. The detailed report will take time, till then people are giving their opinion without any basis, which is not right.”
Referred to the 2019 incident
Captain Randhawa said, “Neither the report nor the Minister of Civil Aviation has said that this was the pilot’s fault. There is a re -examination of TCMA in the control of the control malfunction.
Demand to include a pilot in the investigation team
Captain Randhawa said that his federation is requesting the Minister of Civil Aviation to restructure the board and included type rated experts in this investigation board, who are pilots, engineers and air security experts. The FIP president said that the Indian pilot is one of the best pilots in the world. He added, “Indian pilots are one of the best pilots in the world. I did not give my opinion to the Wall Street Journal, who also contacted me, because I am against this American media. They are deliberately giving their opinions, their views on this report, while there is nothing in the report. So I will strongly condemn this report of Wall Street Journal and we will take action on this.”
FIP expressed protest
Earlier on Wednesday, the Federation of Indian Pilots expressed the preliminary conclusions and “serious” concerns regarding the crash of Air India flight number AI-171 in Ahmedabad and public discussion. In an official statement, the FIP expressed dissatisfaction over the exclusion of the pilot representatives from the investigation process and objected to the interpretation of the initial report and the method of public presentation. The statement came after the Reuters report, citing the Wall Street Journal, claiming that the recording of the conversation between the two pilots of the Air India aircraft crashed last month shows that the Captain had closed the switch controlling the flow of fuel in the aircraft engines.
What did Wall Street print?
According to Reuters, the Wall Street Journal report cite people who were familiar with the initial assessment of American officials of evidence in the investigation into the accident, killing 260 people. The report said the recording shows that the first officer flying the Boeing aircraft opened the new tab 787 Dreamliner and the second captain, who was more experienced, asked why he put the switch in a “cutoff” position after getting off the runway. Reuters quoted WSJ as saying that the first officer expressed surprise and then panicked, while Captain remained calm. Input- (ANI)
